Judge orders settlement for Arias fan's threats
PHOENIX -- A judge has ordered attorneys to try to reach a deal in the case against a New York man indicted in Arizona on charges that he made Twitter death threats against two TV commentators over their coverage of Jodi Arias.
David Lee Simpson, of Bath, N.Y., appeared in court Wednesday. He faces five felony counts related to Twitter threats against Nancy Grace and Jane Velez-Mitchell, hosts on cable's HLN, who covered Arias' murder trial in Phoenix.
Investigators said the 48-year-old also threatened an Arizona woman. Simpson has pleaded not guilty.
His attorney said he is in discussions with prosecutors to reach a deal and avoid trial, now set for Nov. 21. The judge has ordered both parties to schedule a settlement conference to discuss the matter.
