FLORENCE, Ariz. -- A Red Rock man is accused of negligent homicide after authorities say he accidentally shot his girlfriend while trying to scare her with a gun.

Pinal County Sheriff's officials say 20-year-old Ramiro Delcid called 911 and reported the shooting.

Delcid told detectives that he was sitting in his company work truck with 19-year-old Dina Dicochea about 7 p.m. Monday.

He says he unloaded his .38-caliber pistol and reportedly pointed it at his girlfriend in an attempt to scare her.

Delcid says he pulled the trigger thinking the gun was unloaded, but one bullet had remained in the weapon and Dicochea was shot in the chest.

Authorities say Dicochea was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's officials didn't immediately know Tuesday if Delcid had an attorney yet.
