ADOT lifts last restrictions on US 89 bypass

PHOENIX — The final restrictions of the U.S. 89 detour route have been lifted, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.
The shorter route, which opened in late August, had been limited to daylight use and speed was confined. The speed limit now is 55 mph.
The 44-mile long detour in northern Arizona had previously been a road belonging to the Navajo Nation.
U.S. 89 near Page has been closed since February because of a landslide. Repairs to the main road have been underway are scheduled to begin next year, in a $40 million project.
The main route is likely to be closed for two years.
