PHOENIX -- Maricopa County authorities are investigating the death of a jail inmate.

The Sheriff's Office says 47-year-old Felix Martinez-Torres was discovered sitting and unresponsive in his cell by employees at the Towers jail facility early Sunday.

Deputy Joaquin Enriquez says CPR was performed, but the inmate was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Sheriff's detectives have interviewed Martinez-Torres' cellmates and an investigation into the death is continuing.

Martinez-Torres was booked into the jail on Sept. 30 on warrants for driving on a suspended license and failure to appear.

Jail officials told KPHO-TV that Martinez-Torres had a history of medical issues and no foul play is suspected.

A cause of death will be determined by the county medical examiner's office.
