PHOENIX -- Phoenix police say a homeowner who found a burglar inside his house fatally shot the man.

Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos said the homeowner is an armed security guard and found a man had broken into his west Phoenix house when he returned home at about 10 p.m. Saturday. He confronted the 22-year-old suspected burglar as he came out of a bedroom and shot him.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital where he died. His name hasn't been released.

Martos said the homeowner hasn't been charged but the case will likely be sent to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for a review.
