Amy Chan stepping down as Arizona Election Director

PHOENIX -- State Election Director Amy Chan will be stepping down next month to devote more time to her family.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett made the announcement Friday.

Chan was appointed to the job by Bennett in March 2009.

She has a 10-month-old son and new baby she and her husband are expecting in March.

Bennett said Christina Estes-Werther has been appointed as the new State Election Director. She will start work on Oct. 21.

Estes-Werther currently serves as Gov. Jan Brewer's deputy general counsel.

She graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in Family Studies and Human Development and earned her juris doctorate from Gonzaga University's School of Law.
