Turf Paradise set for 58th season opener

PHOENIX — Turf Paradise will ride back into action Saturday, with nine live races to kick off its 58th horse- racing season.
“Opening day is always exciting,” said general manager Vincent Francia. “In racing, hope springs eternal, and it does so for management, horseman and horse players alike.”
This year, 2,200 horses will be stabled at Turf Paradise, near 19th Avenue and Bell Road.
The racing schedule moves to Saturday-Wednesday from the previous Friday-Tuesday schedule. General admission is $2 for the grandstands. The clubhouse and Turf Club are $4.
Post time for the first race is 1 p.m. The season runs through May 6.
