Jury reaches verdict in DeMocker trial

Steven DeMocker is accused of bludgeoning his ex-wife to death wth a golf club, because he was deep in debt, wanted the insurance money and didn't want to pay alimony.

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- A jury in Prescott has reached a verdict in a stockbroker's murder trial, but it won't be read until Friday morning.

The Yavapai County Superior Court jury had been deliberating since Tuesday in the trial of Steven DeMocker.

They reached a verdict in the case Thursday. Court officials say it will be read at 9 a.m. Friday.

Prosecutors contend DeMocker bludgeoned his ex-wife to death with a golf club because he was deep in debt, wanted the insurance payment and didn't want to pay alimony.

Prosecutors don't have any direct evidence linking DeMocker to the 2008 death of Carolyn Kennedy, but they said circumstantial evidence tied him to it.

DeMocker's first trial ended in a mistrial in 2010 after his defense team quit.
