Real estate agent accused of Phoenix jewelry theft
PHOENIX -- A real estate agent is accused of stealing jewelry from a Phoenix home she showed to potential buyers.
Phoenix police say 32-year-old Angela Ortiz was arrested Wednesday in the town of Maricopa after reportedly fleeing her home and trying to lie about her identity.
She's being held on suspicion of theft, trafficking stolen property and refusing to provide her actual name to law enforcement officers.
Police say a homeowner reported on June 24 that about $15,000 worth of jewelry was stolen after Ortiz showed her house to some possible buyers.
Detectives say they interviewed Ortiz and she denied taking the property or having any knowledge of what occurred.
Police say Ortiz traded three rings at a pawn shop in July and the serial number on one Chanel ring matched that of a ring that was reported stolen.
Police say Ortiz has been really busy at Valley pawn shops and believe there may be more victims.
A Google search showed an Angela Ortiz who worked for DPR Realty in Peoria. When asked about Ortiz, DPR Realty did not comment.
