FLORENCE, Ariz. -- A man wanted in Florida on cahrges of assaulting a police officer has been arrested in Arizona.

Pinal County Sheriff's officials said 36-year-old Antonio Velasquez-Hernandez of Mexico was taken into custody Saturday, accused of being in the country illegally.

Authorities said a fingerprint check through a national database showed Velasquez-Hernandez also goes by the name of Eliberto Morales.

Under that name, he had an outstanding felony warrant out of Naples, Fla., for aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Authorities said Velasquez-Hernandez told them the alias was a name he assumed to avoid detection while crossing the border.

He's been booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for suspicion of identity theft. A hold was placed on the felony warrant so he can be extradited to Florida.
