PHOENIX — The Pinal County Sheriffs Office will hold a full-scale active shooter exercise at Poston Butte High School in San Tan Valley on Wednesday morning.
Sheriff Paul Babeu said, “We’re going to have hundreds of actors involved in this exercise along with teachers and our officers which includes a SWAT team to find out how this will work and to bring a sense of realism.”
The drill also involves ambulances, fire and police departments and hospitals.
“We’ve done this every year with actual scenarios and shoot-don’t-shoot situations and now we’re graduating to this level,” Babeu said.
He said that as the county approached population of a half-million, he wanted to assure residents that the department is prepared to respond to this kind of emergency.
