PHOENIX -- Phoenix police said a man found dead Monday in a car that twice crossed four lanes of freeway may have shot himself.

Sgt. Trent Crump said the investigation continued but that the car drove through a frontage road fence and down onto Interstate 17's southbound lanes near Dixileta Drive.

It hit a median wall and careened back across the southbound lanes before stopping a short distance past the shoulder.

Crump said the car struck only one vehicle, causing minor damage to a pickup but the driver was unharmed.

Police haven't ruled out the possibility that someone else was in the car before it went onto the freeway.
