SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- An Arizona man is facing charges after police say he left his 1-year-old son in a hot car while he went to work.

Brokale Lytte Marques was arrested Saturday on child abuses charges shortly after finding his son in a lethargic state at the Scottsdale Quarter shopping area.

According to police, the 28-year-old Marques told investigators he left his son in a car seat because he was unable to find a sitter. Marques said the son was in the car with the air conditioning and vehicle running.

Marques also told officers the boy seemed fine when he went to lunch with the child but the boy got sick later that afternoon.

The child was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare and is listed in critical condition.

It was not clear if Marques had an attorney.
