BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. -- A woman has died in a car accident north of Phoenix on Interstate 17 on Wednesday.

The freeway at Table Mesa Road has been fully reopened after an hourslong closure. That road is the main route between Phoenix and Flagstaff.

State Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said a female driver was killed when she was struck by a commercial truck after her pickup hit a cow on the road. She had stopped on the road.

Graves said the woman was struck while standing near her vehicle. He said two passengers inside the pickup were hurt, one with life-threatening injuries.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said continued delays are expected from the resulting 5-mile backup.
