PHOENIX — More than 1,700 people were arrested near the Arizona State University campus in a one-month period, Tempe police said.
In total, 1,772 arrests have been made.
The arrests were part of Tempe police’s Safe and Sober campaign, designed to crack down on excessive drinking and other possibly dangerous things that go on as ASU gets back underway.
“Enforcement alone cannot curtail the challenges posed by youth alcohol violations, impaired driving, and alcohol-fueled violence,” said Tempe Police Chief Tom Ryff in a release.
Over 360 DUI arrests have been made as part of the campaign and about 3,500 violations were found.
Police plan to roll out a third phase of the program, but the exact dates have not been determined.
