MESA, Ariz. -- Two people are dead after a possible murder-suicide in Mesa.

The incident happened Saturday morning at the Metro on Main apartment complex, near Main Street and Extension Road.

Officers were called to the scene by a family member who was unable to get into the home and could see two people injured through the window, according to Mesa Police Sgt. Tony Landato.

"Our officers had to force entry into the apartment and found that there was no one else inside," Landato said.

A man and woman, both in their early twenties, were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also found a handgun in the home.

Landato said the couple has a 4-year-old child together who was not home during the shooting.

"We do have information that the male brought the child down to a neighbor's approximately an hour prior to us responding," Landato said. "They also made a phone call to a relative asking that they come and pick up the child."

Mesa police are still investigating a motive.
