Mayor Stanton pitches Phoenix as tech hub to China

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton wants to bring more than a few souvenirs back from a trip to China. He’d like to bring back business.

Stanton told CNBC that Phoenix is building an economy with a strong technology component that should be of interest to an emerging market such as China.

“It’s how we’re going to build that long-term, more diverse, sustainable economy,” he said.

Stanton attended the World Economic Forum’s annual Meeting of the New Champions in Dailan.

He said the Valley’s technology field offers a “quality workforce.”

“That’s the kind of investment we’re trying to attract, and we’re headed in the right direction,” he said.

The forum, which opened Sept. 11, closes Friday.
