PAGE, Ariz. -- Rainbow Bridge National Monument is temporarily closed because recent heavy rains have washed out a trail next to Lake Powell.

The monument is located in southern Utah in the Glen Canyon National Recreation area that also includes part of northern Arizona.

Officials say the monument will be closed indefinitely because of the storm damage.

The damage includes the complete loss of 150 feet of trail between the lake dock and the first shade structure.

Development of a temporary trail is planned for use until a new permanent trail can be constructed.
