PHOENIX -- A family of seven escaped their burning home after they were alerted by a family dog.

A Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said the dog alerted the family at the same time Thursday morning as a passer-by called 911 after seeing smoke from the fire in the attic coming through the roof.

The family has nine dogs. According to the fire department, two dogs are missing outside.

Cause of the fire hasn't been determined.
