PHOENIX -- A man is in custody for allegedly pointing a laser light at a Phoenix police helicopter flying over an apartment complex.

Phoenix police said Wednesday that 21-year-old Antonio Rodriguez was booked into jail on suspicion of two counts of endangerment.

The police helicopter was on patrol around 11 p.m. Tuesday when the cockpit reportedly was struck with a green laser light.

The two officers aboard the helicopter spotted the suspect and requested police ground units respond to the apartment complex, where Rodriguez was found.

Police say Rodriguez told officers he was sorry and didn't know that he couldn't point a laser at the aircraft.

They say Rodriguez also told police that he had the laser in his pocket and he was only testing its range.
