PHOENIX -- Democratic state senators say they won't push for an ethics hearing into Senate Appropriations Chairman Don Shooter's confrontation with his grandson's teacher.

The Yuma Republican last month reached a deferred prosecution agreement that will let him avoid a criminal record in connection with the March 22 incident at a charter school.

However, misdemeanor charges could be reinstated if Shooter doesn't maintain a clean record for a year.

According to the Arizona Capitol Times, Democrats who previously expressed an interest in an ethics probe of Shooter now say it'd be a waste of time because legal authorities have dealt with it.
