Parts of Phoenix cleaning up after storm

PHOENIX -- Parts of Phoenix are cleaning up after a fast-moving thunderstorm toppled trees and caused delays at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The isolated showers and thunderstorms struck parts of the city Friday just hours after temperatures hit a record 111 degrees.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said several planes were diverted from Sky Harbor on Friday evening and others had to do go-arounds before landing.

The storm struck parts of Maricopa and Pinal counties before sundown and caused power outages to about 1,100 Salt River Project customers.

The National Weather Service reports that area can expect to see more showers and thunderstorms beginning Sunday through Tuesday.
