PHOENIX -- A man is in custody after he allegedly fatally shot his neighbor in east Phoenix and then barricaded himself in his townhome for hours.
Phoenix police said the shooting occurred around noon Friday and stemmed from a longstanding dispute between the men.
Three schools had to be placed on lockdown while police searched for the suspect.
Once authorities learned that the man had locked himself in his home, they released the lockdown on the schools.
After more than six hours of negotiations, police said the suspect was arrested and taken away in handcuffs.
His name hasn't been released and neither has the identity of the dead man.
Police said the shooting suspect may have to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
