PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man has been convicted of first-degree murder in last year's fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend in a high school parking lot in Avondale.
A Maricopa County Superior Court spokeswoman says a jury convicted Thomas Lamont Moton on Thursday.
Moton is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 11.
Takesha Barnes was shot multiple times in the parking lot of Avondale's Westview High School on May 25, 2012.
The 33-year-old Barnes had been attending a ceremony for her eighth-grade daughter.
Barnes was declared dead at a Phoenix hospital.
Avondale police said Barnes had taken out an order of protection four days before the shooting after repeated threats by Moton.
According to police, Moton and Barnes had two children together and a history of domestic violence.
