Ex-boyfriend pleads not guilty in fatal metro Phoenix shooting

PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man faces an Oct. 11 sentencing after being convicted of first-degree murder in the 2012 fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend in a high school parking lot.

A Maricopa County Superior Court spokeswoman said a jury convicted Thomas Lamont Moton on Thursday.

Takesha Barnes was shot multiple times May 25, 2012 in the parking lot of Avondale's Westview High School.

The 33-year-old Barnes had been attending a ceremony for her eighth-grade daughter.

Barnes was declared dead at a Phoenix hospital.

Avondale police said Barnes had taken out an order of protection four days before the shooting after repeated threats by Moton.

According to police, Moton and Barnes had two children together and a history of domestic violence.
