MESA, Ariz. -- A man is in custody for allegedly stealing a vehicle with a baby and her grandmother inside from a supermarket parking lot in Mesa.

Mesa police say 45-year-old Ralph F. Esposito Jr. is being held on suspicion of two counts of kidnapping, one count of theft of means of transportation and aggravated DUI.

Police didn't immediately know if Esposito had a lawyer yet.

They say a woman left her 70-year-old mother and her 1-year-old daughter inside her SUV about 9:30 a.m. Thursday and went inside the Food City supermarket.

Police say Esposito allegedly got inside the driver's seat and drove off with the grandmother and child inside.

The vehicle was spotted on Interstate 10 in Tempe and stopped.

Police say Esposito was arrested and the grandmother and baby were unharmed.
