PHOENIX -- Wage increases in the Valley have reportedly been among the nation's highest for large metropolitan areas since 2009.

According to The Atlantic Cities, Phoenix ranked eighth in large metro areas with an average wage increase of $3,310 since 2009

t's important to note that workers in Cleveland, Phoenix, Oklahoma City, Providence, Houston and New Orleans were making far less to begin with, with wages in the $40,000s or below, compared to the $60,000 plus levels for the knowledge metros with the highest wages.

Overall, the largest average wage increase in a big metro area was Washington, D.C. with $4,600, followed by Seattle, San Francisco, Houston and Providence, respectively.

The largest average wage increase in the nation was Midland, Texas at $6,530.,
