TUCSON, Ariz. -- Authorities say a 1-year-old Tucson boy is in critical condition and his mother and her boyfriend are in custody for alleged child abuse.

Tucson police say the baby was brought to a hospital Monday with bruising on his head and body.

They say 29-year-old Bryan Barker had called the child's mother earlier and allegedly admitted to dropping the baby at their home.

Barker and 23-year-old Diana Noncheva allegedly waited an hour before calling a friend to pick them up and take them to a hospital.

Police say Barker is being held on suspicion of two counts of child abuse for causing the injuries and failing to immediately seek medical treatment for the baby.

Noncheva is accused of one count of child abuse for not seeking immediate help for her child.
