MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa police car was recovered after it was stolen while officers responded to a call about a noisy party at an apartment complex.

Police Sgt. Tony Landato said two officers were at a nearby ambulance checking on a teenager being treated for inebriation early Sunday morning when a teenager got in the car and drive off.

One of the officers tried unsuccessfully to pull the boy from the car but lost his grip when it accelerated. Before leaving the scene, the stolen car hit a parked car and the ambulance.

According to Landato, officers found the stolen police car in a park several blocks away.

Landato said a 15-year-old boy found hiding in nearby bushes was arrested on charges that include theft of a vehicle and aggravated assault.
