SAN LUIS -- A community in southwest Arizona may ban smoking at all city parks.

The Yuma Sun reports that San Luis city council is being pressured to consider an ordinance that would prohibit smoking in city-owned parks and athletic fields.

Members of the South Yuma County Anti-Tobacco Youth Coalition appeared before the council recently to push the proposal.

Mayor Gerardo Sanchez made no promises that the council would adopt what would be the first smoking restriction of its kind.

The south Yuma County group is part of a statewide coalition of youths who oppose tobacco use, and its efforts are sponsored by Campesinos Sin Fronteras, a San Luis-based non-profit organization.
