Southern Arizona town upset over border checkpoint

TUBAC, Ariz. Shopkeepers in a southern Arizona town say a nearby border patrol checkpoint on Interstate 19 is hurting their community and businesses. KGUN-TV reports (http://bit.ly/14ON17Z) that Tubac business owners say a temporary checkpoint four miles north of the tourist town hasn't moved in three years and residents want it relocated closer to the U.S.-Mexico border.

U.S. Border Patrol officials told the town residents this week that the agency doesn't plan to build a permanent structure in its place. However, officials say the temporary checkpoint will stay put.

Paul Cisek of Tubac Market says he'll deal with it, but it's hurting his business. Border Patrol officials say the checkpoint is effective. This year, officials say agents at the checkpoint have seized hundreds of thousands of dollars in drugs.
