FARMINGTON, N.M. -- The Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking donations from people who may have benefited from the embezzlement of nearly $500,000 by the bureau's former executive director.
The Daily Times reports the bureau's attorney sent letters earlier this month asking for the donations. The city did not reveal who received the letters.
The bureau's attorney has also said any donations will remain confidential.
Police accused Debbie Dusenbery of stealing money from the bureau between 2006 and 2012. In January, in the midst of the investigation into the missing money, Dusenbery committed suicide in Arizona.
The bureau has received less than $50,000 from Dusenbery's estate, and city councilors suggested earlier this year that the bureau seek donations from those who may have received trips or other gifts from Dusenbery.
