ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Sandia National Laboratories and Arizona State University are forming a partnership for research on renewable energy.

An announcement says the partnership between the Albuquerque research lab and the Tempe-based state university is intended to encourage collaborative research, build educational and workforce development programs and inform policy endeavors.

According to the announcement, the new agreement will allow the institutions to obtain new funding for research and work together in such fields as science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Sandia and Arizona State say the partnership takes effect immediately. It will be overseen by a steering committee with representatives from both institutions.
