Javelinas attack Tucson woman walking dog
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A Tucson woman was treated at a hospital for lacerations after being attacked by javelinas.
Authorities said the 64-year-old woman left her home at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to walk her small, leashed dog when she saw a javelina eating out of a tipped-over garbage can.
The woman fell when she tried to get away and she said as many as three javelinas then charged her.
Authorities said she suffered cuts from the fall and unspecified lacerations from the boar-like animals, but managed to get back into her home.
The Arizona Daily Star reported the unidentified woman was treated and released from a Tucson hospital.
State Game and Fish Department officials said javelinas act instinctively to a dog's presence because they don't distinguish it from a coyote.
