TOLLESON, Ariz. -- A Phoenix-area family of four escaped from their burning home early Wednesday morning but lost four pets.

The family lost two cats and two dogs but the family's horses and tortoise weren't harmed.

Collin Williams of Rural Metro Fire said there are no hydrants near the home located in an unincorporated area of metro Phoenix, so firefighters had to use their truck to carry water to pour on the blaze.

Williams said the fire was already going strong even before 911 was called.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
