Ex-UofA student resentenced in roommate's death

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A woman who killed her University of Arizona roommate six years ago has been sentenced again to life in prison, but will eligible for parole after 25 years.

Prosecutors say 24-year-old Galareka Harrison was resentenced Monday in Pima County Superior Court in Tucson.

She was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2007 stabbing death of 18-year-old Mia Janelle Henderson, a fellow Navajo and UofA freshman at the time.

Harrison was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2008.

She was granted a new sentencing after Harrison's attorney argued that her previous lawyers failed to obtain her medical records and didn't properly investigate her troubled background.

Authorities say Harrison stole Henderson's checkbook, debit card and other items before stabbing her roommate 23 times with a knife she bought days earlier.
