PHOENIX -- Phoenix police have identified a man shot and killed by officers over the weekend.

Sgt. Steve Martos said the man killed in northeast Phoenix on Friday night has been identified as 29-year-old Jonathan Tricarico.

Police don't have information on where Tricarico lived.

The incident started when Mesa police spotted a vehicle stolen in Chandler. Police kept the vehicle under surveillance as it entered Scottsdale and then Phoenix.

Martos said officers said Tricarico fired first at them when they confronted him.
