PHOENIX -- Two people were hospitalized in critical condition Thursday after their car collided with a light rail train in Tempe.

The driver and passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle after the crash near Apache Boulevard and Price Road, according to police.

No other injuries were reported.

The accident caused a delay as the tracks were cleared, but Valley Metro tweeted that service returned to normal.
