PHOENIX -- Authorities have arrested four protesters who chained themselves to a gate outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Phoenix.

The four were taken into custody by federal authorities and Phoenix police after trying to disrupt operations at the ICE site for nearly two hours Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say the four immigration activists chained themselves to a vehicle-access gate leading into agency's Phoenix Field Office.

The organization confirmed four people were arrested. Two were undocumented youths, Yadira Garcia and Francisco Luna. Maria Castro, an official and Alejandra Sanchez, a mother of DREAMers, were also arrested.

"As the police handcuffed us, we felt proud and unafraid," Castro said in a press release. "We were willing to risk arrest because we can no longer sit and watch families be ripped apart by one more senseless deportation. My mother means the world to me and it's for her, and every family in this state and our nation, that I stood up today. Too many children have been separated from their parents; too many American families live in constant fear."

TV video showed authorities using metal cutters to snap the chain before the four were arrested.

About 40 other protesters remain gathered on the sidewalk outside the ICE facility with plans for a Wednesday night vigil.

The activists are urging Congress to pass immigration reform that keeps families together, ends enforcement and creates a pathway to citizenship for those in the U.S. illegally.
