MESA, Ariz. -- Authorities say a suspect is in custody in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Mesa last week.

Mesa police said 36-year-old Matthew S. McIver was booked into jail Tuesday on suspicion of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

They say McIver's car has been impounded as part of the investigation of last Tuesday night's accident that killed 68-year-old Richard Welck.

Police were looking for a white SUV with front-end damage and say a tip from a citizen helped lead to the arrest.

Authorities didn't immediately know if McIver has an attorney yet.
