APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -- Tempe police are searching a four-mile stretch of wash in Apache Junction for evidence related to the disappearance and death of a community college student.

Police say Monday's operation was part of a planned strategy by detectives to do smaller, more targeted searches utilizing GPS coordinates.

A badly decomposed body found Aug. 6 by an Apache Junction property owner was confirmed last week as that of 19-year-old Adrienne Salinas. The Gateway Community College student had been missing since June 15.

Tempe police say they're investigating the case as a possible homicide, although they haven't received a cause of death yet from the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police say searchers are looking for such possible evidence as Salinas' clothing or her cellphone.

Authorities haven't identified any possible suspects yet.
