SOUTH TUCSON, Ariz. -- A South Tucson police officer is on administrative leave after he shot a man.

Lt. Jeff Inorio said the patrol officer spotted a man carrying what looked like a shotgun Saturday. Inorio said the man ran off a short distance then turned toward the officer in a threatening manner.

Inorio said the officer shot the man multiple times. The man was taken to a Tucson hospital where he underwent surgery.

Inorio said authorities recovered a shotgun at the scene.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case.
