KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A 43-year-old man has died after being shot by a Mohave County sheriff's deputy who authorities say threatened the deputy with his own baton.
The sheriff's office has identified the man as Blake Barbour of Kingman.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter says the fatal shooting occurred Friday morning after Deputy Jace Reif responded to a report of a man acting erratically and threatening family members at a home near Kingman.
Carter says Barbour was combative and was shocked several times without effect before he grabbed Reif's baton and swung it while approaching the deputy.
According to Carter, Reif shot Barbour when he ignored several warnings.
Reif is an 8-year veteran of the sheriff's office. He's been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Bullhead City Police Department.
