PEORIA, Ariz. -- Peoria police shot and killed a mountain lion seen jumping from yard to yard in the Phoenix suburb.

Police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto said police and state Game and Fish officers tried Tuesday evening to capture the animal to return it to the wild.

She said an officer shot the mountain lion when the officer felt threatened.

Resident Rebekah Coleman said it appeared the mountain lion was stalking her family's dogs.

State Game and Fish took the animal away for rabies testing.
