GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. -- Authorities in southern Arizona say a 36-year-old man is recovering from being shot in the buttocks by his 3-year-old son while they were target shooting in the desert with a .22-caliber rifle.

The Green Valley Fire District says the man drove himself and his son to an Interstate 19 exit and called 911 for help after the shooting occurred Monday afternoon.

The man was transported by ambulance to a Tucson hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injury.

The man's identity was not released.
