MARICOPA, Ariz. -- The Maricopa Fire Department said smoke alarms alerted residents who decided to leave their home early Monday morning despite not immediately seeing any smoke.

The Fire Department said the residents saw flames shooting from behind their garage door only after leaving their home.

The garage was fully engulfed in flames but responding firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the home.
