TUCSON, Ariz. -- A Tucson woman who intentionally contaminated her baby daughter's intravenous lines with fecal matter has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Pima County prosecutors said Blanca Reneis Montano was sentenced Friday.
She was convicted in May of child abuse under circumstances likely to cause death or serious injury.
Her child contracted several bacterial infections but survived.
The Arizona Daily Star said the case against Montano started after she took her then 5-month-old to a Tucson hospital with flu symptoms in February 2011.
Tests showed the infant had E. coli.
The hospital staff installed a hidden camera in the girl's room and video showed Montano putting the IV lines in her mouth, grabbing the lines and doing something that set off an alarm on the IV pump.
