PHOENIX -- A team of search volunteers have found a body Friday near a popular hiking trail in north Phoenix.

The body has not been identified yet, but in late June a family reported a missing male to police. They believed he might have gone hiking.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos said a search team made up of 20 volunteers from fire and police departments went to work just after daybreak.

The victim was found near the popular Trail 100 in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve near 12th and Cholla streets.

The medical examiner will make the positive ID, Martos said.

Martos said the police have been in communication with the missing man's family and the family expressed its gratitude for the continued search.
