TUCSON, Ariz. -- Federal authorities say a Tucson man is in custody for allegedly performing medical procedures without a license.

Drug Enforcement Administration officials announced Tuesday that 50-year-old Gustavo Nunez and his aide, 39-year-old Ilda Garcia, also are being held on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs.

DEA investigators say Nunez allegedly performed illegal medical procedures at his NuTec clinic in a Tucson industrial warehouse.

On at least two separate occasions, Nunez is accused of performing liposuction and breast augmentation procedures on two women.

DEA officials say both patients suffered severe complications following the procedures and were admitted to Tucson emergency rooms.

They say Nunez also allegedly prescribed controlled substances to the patients after the procedures, causing one to become unconscious for several hours.

It's unclear if Nunez or Garcia have lawyers yet.
