PHOENIX -- Phoenix police said two officers shot and killed a man who attacked and wounded the officers with a machete.

The incident happened just before midnight Monday after the officers went to an apartment complex in southwest Phoenix in response to a domestic violence call.

Sgt. Trent Crump said 35-year-old Tobias J. Torres of Phoenix, was hiding in a bathroom in an apartment near 59th Avenue and Roosevelt Street and attacked the officers as they checked on a woman and her four children.

The man was fatally wounded when the officers shot him.
